4Chan Awards List Mass Effect 3, Diablo 3, War Z As Worst Games Of The Year

A list of “vidya gaem awards” have been handed out by the underbelly of the internet trolling community, 4Chan. Since video game journalism is about as reputable as an obese racing horse with diabetes, the good /V/irgins decided to host their own gaming awards and unsurprisingly, the worst games of the previous year were the ones that were called out for anti-consumerism one way or another.

The complete list of winners (or losers) is on Vidyagaemawards.com. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the 4Chan community mostly got it right, with inescapably fun games like Sleeping Dogs, XCOM, Max Payne 3, The Walking Dead and Hotline Miami taking away most of the “good” awards, such as”Least Worst Award”, “Best Soundtrack” and “Buzzword Award”.

On the opposite end of the spectrum the “Most Hated Award” went to Mass Effect 3 over the ending debacle and the subsequent corporate and media trolling to disparage and belittle consumers, fans and gamers alike.

Diablo III also made the list for all the anti-consumer bull crap Blizzard pulled last year, and The War Z also made the list for the exact same reasons as Diablo III.

Other games that were called out included Street Fighter X Tekken, for the obvious disc-locked content fiasco. Medal of Honor: Warfighter and Resident Evil 6 were also listed among other titles that caused some kind of community backlash.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II also got picked apart but not quite like BioWare, who also managed to walk away with “Blunder of the Year” for both Star Wars: The Old Republic, also known as The Tortanic, and Mass Effect 3. These were followed by The War Z and Diablo III, amongst other lesser offenders.

As you can imagine, most of the praise went to stuff like Journey, Max Payne 3, The Walking Dead, Far Cry 3 and Sleeping Dogs. I was surprised to see so much love for Sleeping Dogs, but it's a game I feel no one talks about because they're too busy having fun with it (and yes, even I'm still playing this game regularly).

The “Kotick Award” for crimes against gaming is also pretty funny, with “Tropes Vs Women in Games” taking the top spot, followed by Dorito-Gate, EA and BioWare and ActiBlizzard.

And finally (because I could write all day about the /V/idya Gaem Awards) the one that really stuck out was “Malignance Award” for the most detrimental force to video games. Number one on the list is video game journalism, followed by low standards and DLC. I honestly couldn't agree more.
