Magicka: Wizard Wars Adds Multiplayer To The Spell Casting Formula

For those of you who can’t get enough of flinging spells and watching your enemies (and sometimes your friends) vanish in a ball of fire, you’ll be happy to know that Magicka: Wizard Wars is about to turn the multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genre on its ear.

Paradox Interactive made the announcement official during GDC today, giving everyone a glimpse of the type of tongue-in-cheek humor players can continue to expect out of the Magicka series with this latest title, Wizard Wars.

Being built by new studio Paradox North, Wizard Wars is MOBA that promises “team-based, fast-paced, two-faced, post-haste, four-on-four twitch action PvP.” Players will still be able to combine spells and abilities like in previous Magicka offerings, but now you’ll be working with teammates to take out the enemy and hopefully avoid doing the same thing to each other with friendly fire.

Magicka has always allowed for some unique gameplay and, with Wizard Wars, we’ve really captured the true experience of PvP wizardry,” said Paradox North Executive VP John Hargelid. “when you put the team-focused, hardcore competition of online games together with characters whose attacks are fluid and dynamic, and then give teammates the ability to implode, freeze and fling each other by accident, it’s really something special to watch, and to play, and to yell at your friends about afterwards.”

Wizard Wars will feature all kinds of magical spells for players to experiment with in short, furious battles. Player progression is persistent, too, meaning you’ll be able to continuously grow your own army of wizards, making you an ever-greater force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.
