World Of Tanks, World Of Warplanes (Probably Not) Getting Invaded By Zombies

Zombies are coming to World of Tanks and World of Warplanes…Maybe. The fact of the matter is that it’s April Fools’ Day and this latest bit of news concerning Wargaming’s hit and upcoming free-to-play vehicular battle games seems awfully suspicious. But why worry about what I think when you can read up on it, watch the video and decide for yourself?

Here’s my problem with stuff like this: If this isn’t for realsies (And, let’s face it, it’s almost definitely not), I’m actually a little bummed. The statement from Wargaming explaining the zombie modes for World of Tanks and World of Warplanes actually sound pretty awesome. If nothing else, at least these guys went the whole nine yards trying to drive their joke home. There are loads of details, beautiful pieces of concept art and even a five minute developer diary surround the whole mess. You have to admire their commitment.

According to the announcement, the AI-controlled undead “will become essential elements of both games and bring more diversity to the gameplay.”

In World of Tanks, players could take part in a Zombie Escort survival mode where players would have to make a journey while fighting off hordes of the undead. The undead would be able to infect the tank crew, damage external modules, as well as block the main gun.

In World of Warplanes, any tail gunner who got shot would become a zombie and the AI would remember its killer and target their plane for the remainder of the round. Also, players who fly too close to wooded areas might come up with a zombie clinging to their wing, affecting the plane’s top speed and maneuverability.

See what I’m saying? That stuff sounds fantastic!
