Itís time to celebrate the Christmas/ Chanukah/ Kwanza/ Festivus Holiday season, so all around Cinema Blend weíre enjoying Twelve Days of Christmas. Yes, we know traditionally the ď12 daysĒ start with Christmas, but we plan on being celebrated out by that time, so weíre pushing the twelve days leading up to the holiday.

Here in Blend Games weíre celebrating by counting down by reliving some of our favorite holiday gaming memories, in an effort to boost your Christmas spirit. Thereís nothing quite like finding a new game console under the tree. So without further ado:

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love gave to meÖ

A Good Night To All

From the entire staff at Blend Games I would like to take over the final entry in our 12 Days Of Christmas spectacular to wish you and your family a very merry Christmas. Thatís right, I just wished you a Merry Christmas and thereís a damn good chance you donít celebrate the holiday. Iíve long ago lost any interest in what was fed to me as the ďtrueĒ meaning of this holiday. To me Christmas is about family, friends, and the joy of sharing the things we love. In that spirit we have shared our fondest holiday gaming memories.

It doesnít really matter if your holiday started a month prior with a birthday, or if you light candles for eight days. Iím intrigued by all of the religious traditions people practice, but honestly we write about games here. Thereís no room for pontification on theological ideas beyond my purview. Instead, letís look at what the holidays mean to us as gamers.

They mean more games to play. Itís really that simple. The holidays are the one time when we were guaranteed to get that long coveted Mega Man title, the latest Mortal Kombat fighter, or the mistake that was Sega CD. Each year we sit and wait for the months to go by before we can own the newest game.

Local video rental stores get us through the year. Staring at the vast wall of NES games Ė with their horrible box art and limited info Ė during the summer months is a rite of passage for all gamers. Without those haphazardly aligned boxes I never would have picked up Metal Gear. I never would have known what to ask for when the time came for my parents to finally make the trip to Toys R Us.

Whether itís simply getting the game, or the memories of playing with family, the truth is we love the holidays here at Blend Games. Itís the time when we get to share our favorite pastime with family members who have no clue what a warp whistle can do for you. But they still want to play.
