Killzone: Mercenary Trailer - Get Rich Or Die Trying

Sony unleashed a new trailer for the upcoming Killzone: Mercenary for the PlayStation Vita featuring some of the game's thrilling first-person shooter combat, as well as the basic principle behind the mercenaries in the game: they don't have sides, they're just trying to get rich or they'll die trying. If your inner 50 Cent just perked up, well then the trailer did its job.

Gaming Blend's own Ryan Winslett has been writing rather auspiciously about the upcoming handheld shooter, with plenty of hands-on impressions as well as a few tips and tricks for surviving the multiplayer. The game does seem – from his experience with the title – to be coming along quite nicely.

The game itself puts players in the role of a hardened mercenary; a man with no ties or allegiances to the Helghast or the ISA. The Arran Danner is one of those macho dudes that we used to see in movies during the 80s and 90s but have mostly faded away in place of the Justin Timberlakes, Taylor Lautners and Robert Pattinsons.

Players will be tasked with protecting the Vektan Ambassador's son while fending off the prized target from both the ISA and the Helghast. Like all typical tweener stories, Danner will get hit with the conscience hammer at some point and players will be thrust through a fight for survival that could turn the tide of the war one way or another. The game works as a prequel of sorts to everything that follows the original Killzone on the PlayStation 2.

As for the trailer itself, it seems to get the job done insofar of peppering players with a enough gameplay variety to showcase that it's more than just a typical portable, run-and-gun affair. In fact, there is more gameplay variety in that single trailer for Killzone: Mercenary than there has been in every single other Call of Duty trailer combined, minus the trailer with fish AI and War Lassie. Sad times.

Anyway, you can look for Killzone: Mercenary to launch tomorrow in PAL territories, the day after that in Japan, and next Tuesday in North America, exclusively for the PlayStation Vita.

If you're having a hard time waiting for the game to launch, feel free to join other portable warriors over on the official website where you can discuss and debate all things Killzone.
