GOG Celebrates Birthday With Free Game, Discounted RPGs

GOG.com is having a birthday celebration and, in a fantastic spin on tradition, we're the ones getting all of the presents. From a free game to deep discounts on some recent classics, there's plenty to get pumped for in this birffday celebration.

A DRM-free distributor for PC and Mac games, GOG.com is smack-dab in the middle of a five-week birthday shindig. Between now and Tuesday, Sept. 24, the site is giving away one free game and offering 60 percent off a handful of other titles you might have missed out on.

For starters, anyone with a GOG account can pick up the point-and-click adventure, Flight of the Amazon Queen, for exactly zero dollars. It's GOG's way of saying “thanks for helping keep us in business for yet another year.

Additionally, an “RPG weekend promo” is running through this coming Tuesday (GOG has extra-long weekends, don't you know.) with a bunch of, you guessed it, RPGs marked down by a hefty sum.

You'll need to act before 3:59 p.m. GMT on Sept. 24 if you want to make good on any of these special prices, so maybe head on over and get to buying as soon as you're done reading this if you don't want to miss out.

“The RPG weekend promo includes many classics from different eras and sub-genres of RPG gaming,” reads a statement from GOG.

First up is Wizardry 6+7, a nice offering for those looking to get in some old-school RPG-ing with a “mixture of fantasy and sci-fi” and an “epic promise of 400 hours of playtime.” An older offering, Wizardry 6+7 offers strategic turn-based combat. Hopefully you'll fall head-over-heels in love with it, otherwise you might not ever make it to the end of that ridiculously lengthy playtime.

If, however, you're in the mood for something a bit more fast-paced and modern, then you'll be happy to know that Divinity 2: Developer's Cut is also receiving a 60 percent discount for the next few days.

Finally, a gem from very recent years, the tough-as-nails modern throwback to classic grid-based dungeon crawling, Legend of Grimrock, is also included in the RPG weekend promo, meaning that anyone who missed out on this award-winning hit can now pick it up on the cheap in order to play it before the sequel finally gets released.

And with that, so ends week two of the GOG.com birthday celebration. With three more weeks left in the festivities, you might want to check back on a regular basis to see what other surprises pop up for free or at a drastically reduced rate. Just remember that the above games are just a sampling of the RPGs being marked down for the event. For the full list, head on over to GOG.com.
