Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance Gets Patched For Offline Play, Modder Fixes 1080p Restriction

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance recently launched for PC, making it Platinum Games' seminal PC launch and another notch on the stick as a successful PC port for Konami. The game didn't get off to a perfect start, but what few rocks it did encounter, the developers sliced through them like a laser-carbon katana through a titanium alloy tank.

Reddit, Neogaf, the Steam forums and Gamefaqs have all been keeping a keen eye on how well Platinum Games and Konami would be handling the PC port of one of 2013's most explosive game titles. For the most part, both Platinum and Konami did a mighty fine job of moving over the Xbox 360 and PS3 action-slasher into the realm of the Glorious PC Master Race.

One of the hiccups encountered early by gamers was an offline glitch that prevented gamers from enjoying their hacking and slashing while disconnected from the interwebs, as reported by Joystiq.

The offline woes won't be long-lived, though. Gamers took to Twitter to ping the foxy ones about the offline troubles, and here's what Konami's European brand manager, Steven Key, had to say about the issue...

Another issue has also cropped up for the game, namely the resolution lock. The game doesn't go above the standard of 1920x1080. This means that if you have 2K or a 4K resolution display, you won't be able to make use of it with the game. Basically, it's like forcing the PC Master Race to only use one bicep for flexing instead of two... and we all know you can't flex gloriously unless you're flexing both biceps.

Gearnuke, thankfully, caught wind that modder-extraordinaire, Durante, has come to the rescue (partially) and revealed that there is a simple fix to unlock newer, better and bigger resolutions.

The only problem is that Durante hasn't released the patch to the public the way he did with the Dark Souls fix.

According to Durante, the fix is easy enough that Konami may (or should) include the resolution unlocker in the next patch. Given Konami's quick response with the offline fix, I don't doubt that they would forgo users having the ability to make the game look even better than it already does.

As for those wondering whether this is a proper port and is worth the plunge: the general gaming consensus says that Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a very good port and that Konami deserves props, praise and support so that they will continue to port more games to PC. Who knows, maybe if the sales are good enough Konami will have Metal Gear Solid 5 launching day-one on PC alongside the other consoles? One can dream... one can dream.
