Minecraft PS4 Might Launch Today, Xbox One Edition Arriving Friday

The Xbox One version of Minecraft is just days away. The PS4 edition could be coming even soon.

Minecraft will be available through Xbox Live starting on Friday, September 5th. The normal $19.99 price is chopped down to $4.99 if you own the game on Xbox 360. 4J Studios said in the past that this discount will be offered for the next year, in case you're not in any particular hurry to upgrade.

Your saves and DLC packs from the Xbox 360 edition will transfer to Xbox One for no additional charge. The developers hinted in the past that some DLC wouldn't carry over due to "licensing restrictions." However, leader producer Roger Carpenter said today that all content packs will be transferrable:

He added in a later tweet that the 21 add-ons released for Minecraft Xbox 360 to date can be purchased on Xbox One on launch day as well.

4J Studios is also putting the finishing touches on the PS4 and PS Vita versions of Minecraft. The PS4 edition was actually submitted for certification before its XB1 counterpart. However, Sony found a few bugs for the developers to fix before it can be released.

Minecraft PS4 wasn't included in the European or American PlayStation Store updates this week. Mojang's Daniel Kaplan says that the PS4 version could actually be out before the Xbox One edition debuts, though. In fact, it might be here by the end of Wednesday:

Even if Minecraft doesn't hit PS4 by the end of the day, these tweets indicate that the game's probably going to hit that console sometime this week.

The PS4 version has the same price and last-gen discount as the Xbox One version. Both platforms allow players to create worlds up to 36 times larger than the PS3/360 editions. The game supports four-player split-screen and eight-player online sessions.

The Vita edition is closely based on the PS3 version so won't have as many bells and whistles as the new-gen releases. However, it's going to be free to people who own Minecraft on PS3 so it's got that going for it. There's been no update on a release date for that platform yet.
