Play Video Games With Will Ferrell For Charity

Will Ferrell is calling on gamers to help him fight cancer. One of these gamers will have the chance to play online with Ferrell during a special Twitch event.

"I want to throw one of the coolest video game events in the history of mankind, possibly even dating back to the time of the dinosaurs," Ferrell said on the Indiegogo campaign's site . "I'm extending this challenge to gamers: Raise $375,000 for charity and children with cancer and then I'll host the event on October 26th.....AND, one lucky winner (aka one of you reading right now) could join me for this life altering moment in beautiful San Francisco!"

Anyone who donates at least $10 to the Indiegogo campaign will be entered for a chance to play. The winner will receive an all expenses paid trip to San Francisco for two. During their two days in San Fran, they'll tour Twitch's headquarters and then participate in a 2-hour "gaming extravaganza" with Ferrell. Several pro gamers will make appearances during the livestreamed event as well.

No word yet on what everyone will be playing during the event. Something with multiplayer would probably have the best comedic value. Maybe Destiny or some upcoming game like Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare? Microsoft is a co-sponsor so they'll probably be using an Xbox One.

There's some fine print on this sweepstakes obviously. You need to be at least 13 or older at the time you enter the contest. Furthermore, you have to be a current resident of the United States. You can check out the rest of the rules here.

Donors will get other special rewards as well. Anyone giving at least $10 will get $5 worth of Amazon credit. Gamers who donate $50 will get "Will Ferrell's SuperMegaUVBlastMax Gamer's Sunscreen" as well. Other perks for donating include t-shirts and hoodies. The campaign was giving away autographed Xbox One controllers and cowbells (the latter is a reference to a great SNL sketch starring Ferrell) but they're already sold out.

The Indiegogo campaign will benefit the charities Cancer for College and DonateGames.org. The money will be spent on college scholarships for cancer survivors as well as financial support for families of children with cancer.

"The founders of Cancer for College and DonateGames.org both experienced firsthand how families can not only be devastated physically and emotionally by cancer, the disease can wipe them out financially as well. A family will use every last resource to return a child to health often leaving nothing for things such as a college education."

"Both charities aim to provide direct support to families who are either deep in the battle against cancer or survivors hoping to live the life they always dreamed of."

The Indiegogo campaign will close on October 12th at 11:59pm PT.
