Far Cry 4 Co-op Mode Expanded

The latest patch for Far Cry 4 has dropped and a number of fixes have been made to the game, one of which includes a rather deadly respawn at a checkpoint location, as well as the ability to play custom made maps in the co-op multiplayer mode.

Game Informer took note of the patch update from over on Ubisoft's official forum for Far Cry 4, where community manager Megan-Alyse O'Malley rolled out the details of the patch and some of the new additions to the game, such as the IGE co-op mode.

O'Malley writes...

“With this update, we'll be introducing Co-Op on custom maps for Far Cry 4! The patch is currently being pushed to all platforms, and should be available by end of day tomorrow for both console and PC. We'll have a news post shortly with more information on how to Co-Op will work with IGE maps, however the Patch Notes are currently available.”

The patch for IGE co-op clocks in at 657mb, according to VG 24/7. The site also notes that the 657mb patch was ripe and ready way back in December for PC gamers. Of course, PC users sometimes get patches earlier than their console counterparts due to not having to deal with the patch certification process.

Sony wanted to waive fees for the patch and concept certification to help more developers get their titles up and out there a lot easier. This move also created the rather unwelcome effect of some games launching broken in order to meet their release date and then publishers having developers push out day-one patches to address the issues or have patches arrive shortly after launch before too many complaints file in.

Even with patching made easier for eighth-gen gaming, there are still some nearly unforgivable moments that occur, like with the month-long battle Ubisoft had with trying to get the frame-rate and gameplay stabilized in Assassin's Creed Unity, which is just completely unacceptable. Could you imagine paying to see a movie in the theater but it kept cutting out and losing audio throughout the whole thing? I imagine a lot of people would be asking for refunds.

Anyway, the patch for seventh and eighth-gen consoles should now be available.

In addition to the IGE co-op, which allows you to make your own custom cooperative experiences that you and your friends can buddy-up and share together, the patch also addresses some connectivity issues in Far Cry 4's client, as well as matchmaking stability for the PvP mode.

XP inconsistency for the loadout, as well as issues with spawning under specific circumstances has also been addressed.

Far Cry 4 has been one of Ubisoft's more recent releases that wasn't dog-piled for a litany of performance or technical issues, which is a good thing. The game was reviewed fairly well and continues to hold a decent place in the hearts and minds of gamers.

The ability to partake in the cooperative modes with custom maps should definitely help extend and expand the game's replayability. You can grab Far Cry 4 right now for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4 or PC.
