EA is going all out with their upcoming EA Sports UFC 2. In the first game, fight fans and martial arts enthusiasts got to step into the octagon as the godfather of MMA, Bruce Lee, but this time around gamers get to enter the cage as the vicious and indisputably powerful “Iron” Mike Tyson.
IGN detailed how players will be able to don the gloves of two different versions of the controversial and iconic boxer. There's the 1980s Mike Tyson – a young, hungry fighter who would down any and everyone in his path – and then there's the “Legacy” Mike Tyson, who represents the fighter later on in life. Tyson will be a pre-order bonus for those who commit to buying the game before it releases. You get to see both versions of Tyson in action with the debut trailer for the boxer in the video below.
Surprisingly, EA Sports keeps the shots really tight and up close, so it's hard to see the full extension of the punches. I'm wondering if the extended jab and straight cross will make it into upcoming title? Most of the punches being thrown here are the big bombs that will down an opponent in one solid hit.
I'm also wondering how they're going to handle Tyson's ground game in EA Sports UFC 2? In the first game, they got a little wonky with the move-sets for some of the fighters, giving them kicks, punches and submissions they don't actually do in real life. I'm wondering if for the sequel they'll have the character engineers focus on giving the fighters on the roster the moves they actually use in real life?
Well, I guess we'll find out once the beta gets underway. Those who pre-order or register on the website will be eligible to participate in the beta that starts next week on January 28. They'll test some of the modes, some of the features and some of the fighting mechanics ahead of the game's March release.
EA has upgraded and streamlined the process of submissions in the MMA title, so that it's easier to pull off combos and string together positional advantages to make an opponent tap out. They also refined the knockout system in the sequel to EA Sports UFC so that the hits connect better and the knockouts look more realistic.
I've been very satisfied with the mechanics that have been on display so far and I'm looking forward to seeing how the content looks once the beta drops at the end of the month.
The only thing I'm hoping for is that the character creation is a lot more in-depth than what we were given in the first EA Sports UFC.
