New XCOM 2 Mod Lets You Play With Stormtroopers

Folks can't seem to get enough of Star Wars these days, so it makes sense that we'd start to see mods themed after the popular series popping up in more and more games. The latest such mod plops Stormtrooper helmets onto your soldiers in XCOM 2, which is actually pretty-dang-rad.

The XCOM 2 mod is called Star Wars Helmets and, as the name suggests, it lets you deck your team out in several pieces of headgear pulled from the movies. All of the details, including instruction on how to load them into your copy of XCOM 2, can be found on the mod's official page.

Available for soldiers both male and female, there's actually a nice selection of helmets to choose from already. Currently, you can pick from the original Stormtrooper helmet, the Scout Trooper helmet, the First Order helmet, the Mandalorian Helmet, and the Republic Commando helmet. So whether you want to pretend you're Darth Vader, Kylo Ren or the commander of a bunch of bounty hunters, this one mod has you covered.

The mod also allows for full color and camo customization, with a facepaint called “Black Collar” thrown in to cover up the exposed neck of the character. The modder explains that they plan on adding more in later, which probably comes as great news for series fans or people who want to ease the transition between Battlefront and XCOM 2. Now if only they could mod in the lasers and whatnot, we'd be set. The standard body armor isn't a perfect match, of course, but it's certainly close enough to count.

At present, the Star Wars Helmet mod has a five-star rating with 600-plus votes, so apparently XCOM players are enjoying it.

This is, of course, just the latest bit of Star Wars fever to sweep the world of multimedia. The new film has redeemed folks' faith in the property, so we should probably expect to see more mods like this one popping up in more and more games. Heck, depending on how well Battlefront itself did, maybe we'll even see more Star Wars games hitting the market.

There's plenty of time to make that happen, since movies are planned for an annual basis between now and the end of time. They've got several new television shows in development, too, not to mention an entire row of toys at every big box store on the planet. More Star Wars games just makes a heck of a lot of sense.

Until that day comes, though, I suppose we'll just have to make due with rad mods that make games like XCOM kinda-sorta feel like Star Wars games. Any port in a storm, I suppose.
