See The Awesome Mario Kart Easter Egg Worked Into Tesla's Autopilot
Tesla just recently announced their brand new model, proving that even classy, electric cars like these can be owned by those who couldn’t afford their predecessors. But many gamers and Mario Kart enthusiasts alike probably didn’t even consider that fact that Tesla had a trick or two up its sleeve when it came to Easter Eggs. And now, Tesla has thrown in quite a clever and amusing Easter Egg for those obsessed with one particular Mario Kart track.
Inside Tesla’s autopilot, they were worked in a way for drivers to attempt the treacherous and damn-near-impossible Rainbow Road. No, you won’t actually be driving on the Rainbow Road track. Instead, Tesla will let you ride the Rainbow Road through its instrument cluster. Check out the video of it below.
The Easter Egg comes along with the new software, 7.1.2.16.17, but there’s a trick to triggering the secret Tesla experience. Elon Musk described how to do this in a Tweet on Monday.
So all you really need to do is activate the autopilot four times in succession, and the Rainbow Road should pop up. Elon Musk did hint at something mysterious in the Tweet, saying, “And yes, we are adding more cowbell soon.” Does this mean there will be more Easter Eggs coming to Tesla? More Mario Kart levels? We’ll just have to wait and see.
