Sega has teamed up with the Lego Group to offer gamers a speedy experience in the form of Sonic The Hedgehog within Lego Dimensions. The blue speedster will come in a pack of featuring new levels and vehicles based on the character.

Shacknews is reporting that the Sonic pack for Lego Dimensions is part of the Wave 7 expansion pack series due out on November 18th, which includes packs of characters and vehicles from a number of different brands. In the case of Sonic, you'll gain access to the Sonic mini-figure that will unlock the character in Lego Dimensions to be playable. The pack also comes with Sonic's iconic blue car from the Sega All-Stars Racing series known as the Sonic Speedster, and there's also Tails' airplane known as the Tornado.

According to Shacknews, the Speedster and the Tornado can be rebuilt into several other vehicles as well. The Speedster can be transformed into the Blue Typhoon and the Motorbug while the Tornado can be rebuilt into the Crabmeat and the Eggcatcher.

In a way it's kind of cool that the transformation of the vehicles is similar to _Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed _with the way the vehicles could be transformed and turned into different racing beasts. They don't say if they will have special abilities in _Lego Dimensions _but the pack also comes with a series of brand new levels as well.

Players will be able to race across Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic The Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis, along with the iconic Emerald Coast from the Dreamcast's Sonic Adventure, where Sonic has to outrun a giant whale chasing him down periodically throughout the level. They even go back way old school with the Game Gear's Sonic Labyrinth. On the box of the _Lego Dimensions _pack for Sonic, they also show an image of Eggman's Death Egg Zone, so it appears as if players will also be able to travel to the dangerous mechanical empire of Eggman.

The article doesn't say if Sonic will have any special powers in the game itself, but I'm sure there will be some characteristics similar to his speedy counterpart on home consoles and PC.

The Wave 7 expansion pack series will also include a team pack for Gremlins, which comes with Gizmo and Stripe along with two vehicles. There's also an E.T., pack scheduled to release, which features the famous alien and a phone for him to dial home with.

Another pack includes characters and items from Fantastic Beasts as well as a pack containing characters from Adventure Time, which is bound to be popular with kids and adults.

I imagine some of these packs might be quite popular for the Lego game. While Disney took their toys and decided to go home when it came to the toys-to-life market, it appears publishers like Warner Bros. and Activision will keep pushing ahead in the market. The Wave 7 expansion sets could be big for Warner Bros., if they handle them properly.

With the re-surging popularity of Sonic the tie-in toy line could end up being a surprise hit for Lego Dimensions when the expansion packs launch this fall.
