Rise of the Tomb Raider

Microsoft is continuing to take the fight to Sony, offering up a number of deals and discounts on some highly popular first-party and third-party games. The discounts give gamers an opportunity to pick up some Xbox One titles for a much cheaper price than what you would normally have to pay.

Over on the Major Nelson blog, there's a list of some titles that you can get your hands on during this week's Xbox Live deals.

Obviously, at the top of the crop is CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3, one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2015. It also managed to sell 6 million copies, according to Polygon. The game is a large scale, open-world, action-adventure role-playing game designed for mature audiences.

The Xbox Live deal sees the digital version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition marked down by 50% off the normal price, so if you have Xbox Live Gold you can pick up a copy for only $25 right now.

Additionally, there's Respawn Entertainment's Titanfall 2. This is another critically acclaimed game that had a slow sales start in late 2016 after being setup as an offering to help cannibalize the sales of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It sort of worked and sort of didn't. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare definitely had a massive drop-off in sales compared to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 from back in 2015, but it wasn't enough to stop the massive military shooter brand from being the top game of the fall season. Even still, Titanfall 2 managed to hold its own as far as content, playability and balance was concerned. The game is currently marked down to just $24.00 during this week's Xbox Live deals for Xbox Live Gold subscribers.

There's also a series of discounts on Tomb Raider games. You can get the 2015 release of Rise of the Tomb Raider for 50% off the normal price, along with the Rise of the Tomb Raider Season Pass, which is discounted by 75% off the normal price. If that isn't good enough for you, the improved and upgraded version of the game in the form of Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration can also be acquired for half off. If you missed out on the third-person platformer from a while back, now isn't a bad time to get your hands on it. Personally, I thought the platforming puzzles and mechanics were better implemented than Uncharted 4. The shooting was kind of shoddy, but there was a large enough world to explore with plenty of upgrades and a lot of side-quests to complete. So if you have an Xbox One and you're looking for something similar to Uncharted 4, you can't really go wrong with Tomb Raider. Besides, it's also kind of your only choice in regards to large-scale, sandbox-style 3D platformers.

There are some other games available for half off, including titles in the Xbox Game Preview program. However, one of the more notable entries is for DICE and EA's Battlefield 1. You can actually get the vanilla game or the deluxe edition for half off. Even more than that, there's actually a Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 bundle. So if you wanted a World War I game and a sci-fi shooter, you can get them together as one.

Work fast, though, the deals for Xbox Live Gold members only last up until March 13th.
