They grow up so fast, don't they? Nexon Europe this weekend announced the seventh anniversary celebration of MapleStory, the free-to-play 2D MMO with an anime theme.
It may be hard to believe, but Maple Story is celebrating its eighth birthday. That means if you had a kid at the same time Maple Story launched, said kid would be heading into the fourth grade. Now that I’ve made you feel old, I’ll lighten the blow with the announcement that, to celebrate, the developers are hosting in-game events and offering free goodies.
The legendary hero, Luminous, is well known to the hordes of players who dive into 2D sidescrolling MMORPG, MapleStory, on a regular basis. Formerly just a part of the unfolding story, Luminous is now available as a playable character, giving everyone a chance to experience his unique play style that straddles the line between light and darkness.
Over the past decade, tens of millions of gamers have made the cartoony 2D MMO world of MapleStory into their home away from home. Now that Nexon has announced the release of MapleStory Live for iOS and Android devices, all of those players can have a home away from home away from home, with all of the lighthearted adventuring of MapleStory now available on the go.
In a recent press release Nexon indicated that the initial surge in revenues finishing up 2010 came from the long running casual MMO, Maple Story.
