APB: Reloaded Optimization Patch Launches; Unreal Engine Update Coming
G1 and Reloaded Productions have unleashed the latest patch for APB: Reloaded to help boost the stability of server-side framerates and alleviate some of that awful, awful lag that gamers have complained about for so long. In addition to this, the team is also working hard to fix some of the issues that plagued the early iterations of the Unreal Engine 3.
For quite some time gamers have been suggesting that GamersFirst move APB off the old craggily Unreal Engine 3 and into something better. While that might seem like a good idea, it's not really that easy. The latter versions of UE3 and the early version of UE4 both offer a lot of features that could make APB: Reloaded both easier on the hardware and better optimized as software.
However, as noted in the latest blog post over on the APB: Reloaded Website, the game is still a few months off from receiving any major engine overhauls.
On the upside, Reloaded has been working hard to boost and maintain consistent server-side framerates and better optimize the game for client-side performance. It's basically a win-win situation that should help make firefights a lot more stable and fun, and it should also make driving a little less erratic at times.
Just to prove that the optimization really has been improved, a new video clip was released showcasing how stable the new framerates are. Check it out below.
I'm definitely liking that. It's a huge improvement over the previous 15fps and 19fps drops that pretty much caused firefights to play out like marionettes trying to box each other using rubber-bands for strings.
Version 1.10.2, complete with all the optimized code, has launched and is about a 46mb patch that will automatically download after starting the client.
I'm definitely interested in seeing what comes of the engine modifications over the next couple of months. Personally, if they could get the global illumination system from Unreal Engine 4 and scrap all the pre-baked shadows that would be a dream come true. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
You can grab a digital copy of APB: Reloaded right now, which is free-to-play, or you can learn more by paying a visit to the Official Website.
