Bizarre Creations is best known for their Project Gotham Racing series, and probably best lauded for their Geometry Wars games. Well, Activision recently announced that they are teaming with Bizarre in creating a whole new racing franchise called Blur.
“We did our homework and saw a huge opportunity to move beyond traditional racers and create a game completely focused on making racing ‘fun’ again,” said Martyn Chudley, Creative Director, Bizarre Creations. “Blur delivers a new style of racing experience for all gamers, regardless of their experience, skill or genre preferences. Everything the player does, both in their cars and with their cars, is a dramatic adrenaline rush; it’s a real blast!” The game follows the tradition of classic arcade racers with players having the option of picking up instant power-ups that allow them to receive armor or speed boosts, or use energy blasts to knock opponents out of the way. Of course, there is still the traditional method of bumping and grinding paint with opponents to try and take the lead but that’s far too old fashioned to get across the checkered flag in first place. “We know that racing can be fun for everyone, and we are excited to enter this genre with a game that keeps players in the pack and combines fun with intense racing battles,” said Maria Stipp, EVP and GM of Owned Properties, Activision Publishing. “Bizarre Creations is one of the most creative studios in the industry with a rich heritage of top-rated racing games and we are excited to partner with them on Blur, which is set to break the mold of traditional racing games.” What’s more is that the game will feature 20 cars racing simultaneously on a variety of tracks that range from featuring straight-through speed runs to hazardous jumps and stunts. Blur will feature multiplayer modes for up to 20 players and 4-player local offline play. The game will come jam packed with a Custom Groups mode that allows players to customize their multiplayer games the way they see fit. Blur is due out this fall for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Be sure to stay tuned in with Blend Games for further news and updates regarding the latest in gaming news, updates and media. |
