Activision Angry At EA For Publishing Brutal Legend

While many were happy to see EA grab the publishing rights to the orphaned Brutal Legend, it pissed off one company royally: Activision Blizzard, the publisher that had dumped the game in the first place.

According to Variety, Activision has threatened to sue EA for scooping up Brutal Legend. Activision contends that it was still in negotiations with developer Double Fine productions over the game when EA grabbed the publishing rights. A number of the games on Vivendi's publishing roster were put under review when the company merged with Activision last summer to form Activision Blizzard. One of the dropped projects was, apparently, Brutal Legend.

Variety adds that Activision doesn't even want to publish the game - they just want some sort of monetary compensation from EA like they got from Atari for the Ghostbusters game. EA's initial statement doesn't sound like they want to play ball, though: "It would be like a husband abandoning his family and then suing after his wife meets a better looking guy."
