Aliens Vs Predator To Push Graphics Boundaries With DirectX 11

published: 2009-10-21 11:26:19
Rebellion’s CTO, Chris Kingsley, has let the word loose that their upcoming venture back into the Aliens Vs Predator gaming universe will not be a simple re-hash or a redo from what the company accomplished with the game a decade ago. The company recently announced that they plan on pushing the visual boundaries further than before using the new DirectX 11 technology.

According to the press release, Chris Southall, Technical Director at SEGA Europe commented saying…
“With the advent of DirectX 11 on PC and the new DirectX 11 class graphics hardware, the increased speed, realism and fidelity of rendering mean that it’s possible to achieve more in a videogame than ever before. SEGA is delighted to be working with Rebellion and AMD to maximise the use of this new technology for Aliens vs. Predator, and we feel both these partners are really doing something very special.”

Chris Kingsley, CTO of Rebellion also commented with the following remarks…
DirectX 11 provides opportunities never exploited before in 3D graphical terms, with features such as the Shader Model 5.0 providing better shadow and depth of field aspects to the game, and also multi-threaded rendering enabling the Aliens Vs. Predator futuristic characters and environments to be realised in exacting detail but with absolutely no frame rate issues.

No frame rate issues, eh? Well, I’m sure gamers with a $5k computer would attest to that when the time comes, but how about gamers with only a $1k PC/laptop? Whole different story right there, I’m sure of it.

Anyway, Rebellion wants the word out that AvP will be pushing boundaries in 2010. Whether PC gamers will be able to afford to see how far those boundaries go is an entirely different matter.
