Alone In The Dark For PC Uses SecuROM

Atari and Eden Games have announced that they hate you, and hope that your experience just getting Alone in the Dark to work on your PC is as excruciating as possible. Hyperbole aside, the new Alone in the Dark is using the SecuROM online activation system. Boo to DRM.

In order to play the game you’ll have to download an “additional component” and install it to run the game. This requires you to have an online connection. What happens if your gaming computer is not online enabled? Bully for you, you get no game fun. You can play the game offline once it’s been installed, but that doesn’t solve the issue of having to jump through hoops to play a game. And if you want to play the game at a friend’s house, or you get a new computer, you’ll have to revoke the serial number when you uninstall. I guess if you don’t do that ninjas bust through the windows and throw shurikens at your eyes.
