Alone In The Dark Website Launches

Alone in the Dark is old enough that the original came out when I was barely using a computer for Word Processing, and gaming came about on a BBS. But the classic game that helped launched the survival horror genre into the mainstream is getting a redo thanks to Atari.

The developers are interested in creating an experience that mimics those found on Lost or 24. This is while simultaneously avoiding the experience of watching the Alone in the Dark movie, which has been known to cause viewers to stab out their eyes with an olive fork. In the upcoming game players will explore NYC”s Central Park as Edward Camby. The famed park is being recreated as faithfully as possible…except for all the creepy crawlies that inhabit the game world. In real life those are the insuperable tourists going towards the MET while looking for a friend near the Museum of Natural History.

The new website for the game aims to explore the history of Central Park, and its many myths and legends. You can get new info on the park each Thursday at CentralDark.com. Alone in the Dark is scheduled to release this May for the Xbox 360, PC, Wii and PS2. A Playstation 3 version is planned for later in 2008.
