Assassin's Creed 3 Sales Reach 7 Million Worldwide

Assassin's Creed 3 has sold over seven million copies in its first month in stores. This haul makes AC3 the fast-selling game not only in the series but also in Ubisoft's history.

The sales potential of Assassin's Creed 3 became clear long before the game's launch. Its pre-order numbers quickly bested other AC games. In late October, Ubisoft announced that AC3 was the company's most pre-ordered game ever.

AC3 takes players back to the American Revolution era. The main character is Connor, a half-Native American who becomes an Assassin in order to defend his tribe. The campaign plays out over 30 years of his life.

The game also features a full-fledged multiplayer component. Players stalk and kill each other in a variety of game modes. They can also work together in a new Wolf Pack co-op mode. Multiplayer was introduced to the series in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood two years ago, and you could attribute at least some of the series' growth in sales to these online offerings.

Ubisoft plans to capitalize on AC3's success with downloadable content. They plan to release five DLC packs, including a three-part single-player campaign called "The Tyranny of King Washington." Xbox 360, PS3, and PC players can get access to all five DLC packs as they're released by purchasing a $29.99 Season Pass. The Wii U version will receive the new content in time as well, but there's no Season Pass offered for that console.
