Asus Transformer Pad Infinity Powered By Tegra 4, Supports 4K Resolution

Nvidia sent out word today that they wanted everyone to know that the kick-butt, 4K-resolution-supporting, HTML5 and WebGL-based mobile pad from Asus is powered by their beastly Tegra 4 processor.

Asus chairman Jonney Shih unveiled the new multi-functional pad in front of a live audience at a press event called “We Transform”, stating...

“The new ASUS Transformer Pad Infinity, with its incredible features, is indeed the best possible combination of emotion and function,”

I didn't know mobile tablet users were looking for a lot of emotion out of their hardware. That's good to know. The next time you see someone on a bus with a tablet, with tears rolling down the tablet's front-side face, you'll know it's a Transformer Pad Infinity. Enough power to game yet sensitive enough to cry.

The Infinity Pad is powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU and a 2nd generation battery-saver core. The heart and soul of the device is Nvidia's proudly touted multi-core GeForce Tegra 4 GPU, with enhanced web browsing, HTML 5 program support and HD video resolutions topping out at 4K. Hot dang that's smoking hot. 2GB of RAM, Bluetooth support, detachable QWERTY board and 32GB of storage round out the pad's features.

The news posting doesn't talk up the gaming abilities much, but it's certainly a lot more powerful than the OUYA and that poor little thing was designed for games. Then again, OUYA is only $99, so I guess you get what you pay for. If Asus really wants to sell this thing as more than just a business tablet, though, they'll need a few promo videos showing the Infinity Pad rocking mad frame rates with a high-end mobile title.

Anyway, I sure hope the price doesn't break the bank. Need more info? Check out the full announcement on the Nvidia blog.
