Close Quarters, the long-awaited second expansion of Battlefield 3, is now available for the general public. PS3 gamers can download the batch of new content for $14.99. Xbox 360 and PC gamers will be able to purchase it next week.

While most maps that shipped with BF3 focus on large-scale outdoor combat with vehicles, Close Quarters concerns itself with indoor battles. If you like the map "Operation Metro," you'll probably enjoy CQ quite a bit. The expansion adds four infantry-centric maps. Because the maps are smaller than usual, the environments are more destructible.

CQ gives players the opportunity to earn five new dog tags and pursue a new set of assignments. Each assignment will unlock one of these weapons:
  • AUG Assault Rifle
  • SCAR Assault Rifle
  • ACW-R Carbine
  • MTAR-21 Carbine
  • M417 Sniper Rifle
  • JNG-90 Sniper Rifle
  • L86LSW Machine Gun
  • LSAT Machine Gun
  • M5K Tactical Machine Pistol
  • SPAS-12 Shotgun
Some of you might know someone who already owns Close Quarters. Battlefield 3 Premium members were able to download the expansion two weeks earlier. Premium membership costs $49.99 and entitles you to all five expansions for the game as they're released. The membership will also include early access to the remaining three expansions for BF3. Other perks for Premium include the ACB-90 knife, camos, and access to special Assignments and events.

Hopefully CQ can tide you over for the rest of the summer. The next expansion, Armored Kill, won't be out until September. Aftermath and End Game will arrive in December and March 2013, respectively.
