While the big reveal for Battlefield 3 is that the PC version would sport 64 players (and potentially more depending on mod support and patches) the one thing that DICE rarely talked about was Battlefield’s new team deathmatch mode. Well, it has been confirmed that team deathmatch won’t support 64 players like the conquest mode.

According to the Battlefield Blog, not only will team deathmatch be limited to 24 players (twelve on each side) it will also be devoid of vehicles. That’s right, there will be no vehicles in the team deathmatch mode. Another change is also that the maps will be significantly smaller than the conquest mode, which means that players will have to focus more on tight-quarter combat rather than relying on the sprawling environment size as featured in the conquest mode.

Personally, it doesn’t really matter about the team deathmatch because there are so many other games out there with team deathmatch that the mode doesn’t even really register for Battlefield 3. The highlight of the game is the massive environments from the conquest modes, which puts lots of players on the battlefield to take over and maintain control points. Still, even with team deathmatch playing second fiddle to conquest mode, DICE still raised the bar with a standard of 24 players as opposed to Battlefield: Bad Company, which only sported 16 players.
