The first in a series of Bayonetta developer diaries was released today by Sega. This one focuses on the back-story of the game and what makes the game stand out among third-person action games.

Bayonette is the last of the Umbra Witches, who were slaughtered centuries ago by an opposing faction called the Lumen Sages. A witch hero and heavenly-looking enemies is a bit of a switch from the norm, according to producer Yusuke Hashimoto. "We have seen enemies designed like the devil but we have never seen angels as the enemy. So I had unlimited freedom in designing them."

The game arrives on the PS3 and Xbox 360 tomorrow in Japan. It will make its way westward in the beginning of next year.
