Best Buy Looking Into Used Games Too

Yesterday it was revealed that Toys R Us had begun testing out used game sales. It seems they're not the only big retailer trying to get a piece of that action.

A source told Kotaku today that a system for buying and selling used games could be implemented in Best Buy within a month. Best Buy tested out the idea in 2005 but they apparently decided against it. Now that we're in a recession, though, the idea probably sounds a bit more fetching.

Used games sales are a touchy subject for video game companies as they cut into sales of brand new copies of games and the profits gained from reselling games over and over are kept by the retailer. You have to wonder how they'll react if more national chains make pre-owned games a fixture of their stores. Perhaps they'll offer more one-shot incentives with new copies of games, such as the Flashback map pack voucher packaged with Gears of War 2. We could also see a bigger push among publishers for digital distribution.
