Quite a few of our readers were pissed off that BioShock was featured in our fall preview. And I guess we’ll just have to live with the fact that the lot of you were pissed about the game not being in the preview. Oh well. Moving on...it’s time to discuss, or rather, let the developers discuss a bit more about the game with a dev diary, while you take a look at the final box art for the game.
If I must say so myself, the box art looks darn fine. I was expecting the generic BioShock logo over a 50's style decrepit city, but the whole bustling physical presence of the Big Daddy just makes it so much better. I don’t know if it’s the sort of cover that people will see and then pick up the game and buy it just because it looks darn good (viz., Gears of War had that kind of cover, along with Halo 2). But nonetheless, BioShock’s box art is one of the coolest of the year.
Now the footage you’re about to see, details the use of plasemids. These things look as disturbing as they are dangerous. I guess that’s not too bad given that you’ll encounter a lot of kick-butt enemies who will stop at nothing to squash your body into a pulp. But plasemids are sort of an alternative way to approaching combat in BioShock. Such plasemids range from getting bad guys to fight on your side, to electrocuting enemies into a charred lump of burning flesh and sinew. Well, enough blabber. You can check out the developer diary for yourself, and look for the game to hit store shelves for PC and the Xbox 360 later this month.
