You may have just read a story here on Cinema Blend regarding Midway’s new FPS World War II XBox 360 exclusive, Hour of Victory. Well, strap those boots back up, because Midway isn’t done flooding the press with news regarding next-generation titles. Blacksite: Area 51 is a first-person shooter game that will be making an appearance for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC this summer.

Instead of re-describing what the press release says, pertaining to Blacksite, I’ll just let you gamers peruse over the exact wording of the release, which states... “While other FPS titles claim to feature ‘action-packed, highly realistic gameplay,’ BlackSite: Area 51 takes next-gen gaming to an all-new level integrating cutting edge technology, game design and story writing to create the ultimate entertainment experience. The player’s modern-day emotions and fears are driven into a world charged with grave responsibility affecting lives hanging in the balance and eventually finding himself torn between his professional orders and his own ethical standards. In the end, only the actions of the player and his squad can shape the outcome of BlackSite: Area 51 during this potentially pivotal moment in history.”

Further comments were let loose in the press release by Denise Fulton, the studio head Midway’s Austin studio “BlackSite: Area 51 gives players the opportunity to experience next-generation, first person shooter action in one of the world’s most intriguing and mysterious environments,” She went on to say, “Gamers will be instantly immersed in the game’s seamless storyline, set in the desert and small towns surrounding Area 51 that feature highly detailed environments that transform themselves into awesome battlefields. Without question, BlackSite: Area 51 will raise the bar in the next generation FPS genre with its stunning visuals, life-like squad interactions and its multitude of online multiplayer modes.”

Oooh, Midway just bombed on Gears of War, Call of Duty 3 and F.E.A.R. What a way to crap on the competition. Actually, though, Blacksite looks a lot like that indie Half-Life 2 Mod (running on the Reality Engine) that’s being turned into a real game, INC.orperated. Anyway, Blacksite: Area 51 will be headed to retailers this summer, so at least you won’t have to wait too long. Unless of course, it gets delayed like the highly-anticipated Stranglehold, which is also being produced by Midway.
