Do you enjoy Call of Duty 4, but wish the cover art was a bit...gaudier? You're in luck, sir. COD4 will be re-released this April for Xbox 360 as a special Game of the Year edition. What's different from the original retail version? Two things: first (and most importantly!), the packaging will be updated with all of the spiffy awards that COD4 has racked up since its initial release in November.
The GOTY edition will also come with a token which will allow you to download the new map pack, which will also be released in April. This begs the question, "Why didn't Activision just put the map pack on the new disk?" but that solution wouldn't result in us getting some Willy Wonka Golden Ticket from in our COD4 box - life's a series of trade-offs. Anyway, the map pack is priced at 800 Microsoft points ($10).
No word on whether the PS3 or PC will be getting a Game of the Year edition. That might feel like a slight to owners of those platforms but they can purchase the new map pack in April as well so it doesn't really make a difference. Unless you really like cover art and tokens.
