Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare Pre-Orders Skyrocket 385% On Amazon UK

Following a bustling event at GamesCom last week, two games and one console really stepped away as clear winners of the event. The console was the Wii U and the two games are Project CARS and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, the latter of which saw a boost in pre-orders on Amazon UK's charts by a massive margin of 385%.

MCV UK has been keeping track of the pre-orders following the GamesCom convention in Cologne, Germany. The event was the biggest GamesCom ever, with massive attendance levels up at over 335,000.

The reason the game sparked up such interest and pre-orders is due to the game's multiplayer trailers and media promotion at the event. MCV UK makes the pertinent observation that percentages don't always mean what we might think they mean, writing...

“Of course, that doesn't mean the game was pre-ordered well. That's just a percentage increase. 385% of one would only be (just under) four pre-orders, for example. But if we were betting people, we'd say it probably did ok.”

Originally, pre-orders for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare were flat-lining along with games like GTA V on the charts, according to the reports issued by analysts.

However, things have picked up by a large margin for Advanced Warfare after the “Day Zero” pre-order edition went live where gamers could gain instant access to the game a day before the retail edition after pre-ordering.

The Day Zero edition was announced for Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare along with the multiplayer reveal trailer.

Whether or not Advanced Warfare will still maintain the $1 billion in one week sales figures of previous Call of Duty games remains to be seen, but Activision is probably happy the game's pre-orders have moved up in the UK following the GamesCom multiplayer reveal.

As for Project CARS, the game has moved up in pre-orders by 42.3% following the GamesCom showing by Bandai Namco Games, moving up and over the pre-orders for Rise of the Tomb Raider for the Xbox One.

It's not surprising given that Project CARS is being hailed as the must-buy racing simulator of 2014. The game is drop-dead gorgeous and there really isn't anything else coming out this year that even comes close to competing with it. It's also nice that a crowd-funded title is making waves on the charts in the way that it is.

Lastly, the Wii U has also seen a major spike in interest via online retailers following GamesCom due to a number of upcoming, high-profile games due for release on the console. There's a lot of buzz circulating around the Wii U's Amiibo figurines and the Super Smash Bros., bundle that many expect to be announced soon. Additionally, the upcoming release of Hyrule Warriors in North America and Europe has also piqued interests in a lot of gamers who previously weren't interested in a Wii U.

Of course, don't expect to have Call of Duty crossing over into the Wii U's purchase path this year, as it's been made known that Advanced Warfare won't be releasing for Nintendo's console.
