Capcom At E3: Resident Evil 5 Details And Media Blowout

Here we go: a survival horror game I can wrap my sweaty hands around. Resident Evil 4 remains one of the best gaming experiences of my recent memory and the fact that Resident Evil 5 is continuing the new direction of the series I am amped up to play the game. Like, I’m Lou Ferrigno swathed in purple pants and green paint while snorting cocaine amped up for this thing. And now Capcom is finally unveiling concrete details on the game.

Chris Redfield returns to headline the latest installment in the series, but this time he heads to Africa. The biohazard “issues” have not been resolved. Chris has joined a new team and they head of to investigate a new bioterrorism threat that is transforming the inhabitants of an African village into mindless and massacring creatures. Along for the ride is Sheva Alomar, the femme fatale of RE 5 who also happens to be the character your coop partner controls. Together they work to discover the truth of what’s happening.

Series veterans Jun Takeuchi and Masachicka Kawata are getting ready to unleash the next revolution for the survival horror series. Take what 4 did and pump it up with adrenaline…you’ll then have a vague idea of what Resident Evil 5 will be like. Come March 2009 it looks like Capcom will have trumped one of their greatest achievements. Unless something goes horribly wrong in the interim. I’ve also noticed that most screens and videos have showcased the game in bright daylight. Capcom is planning to bring the scares out of the shadows, using the power of the 360 and PS3 to revitalize the scare tactics we’ve come to know and love from Resident Evil.

Resident Evil 5 will release simultaneously on the Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 13, 2009.
