Capcom Comments On Legend Of Chun-Li Reception

As you may already know, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li didn't do too great amongst critics or at the box office. How does Capcom, the creators of the Street Fighter games and co-producers of the film, feel about the reaction to Chun-Li so far?

"Critics were unkind to the first Street Fighter movie as well, but that film has been ridiculously profitable for Capcom over the last decade," Chris Kramer, Capcom's Senior Director of Corporate Communications said in a talk with GameDaily. "The original SF movie still generates millions of dollars in royalties for Capcom every year, thanks to cable, foreign distribution, home video, DVD and Blu-ray sales. And Capcom would be receiving even more money if that had been a co-production deal!"

Thus, even though Chun-Li only brought in $4.65 million in its opening weekend, it can still turn out to be pretty profitable for Capcom. It's the first of many film adaptations of their game franchises that they'll be co-producing. Films based on Onimusha, Clock Tower and Lost Planet are all currently in production, and Kramer mentions that there are a "few other options floating around Hollywood." Live-action Mega Man, anyone?
