Carmageddon: Reincarnation Slated For Digital Download On PSN, XBLA, PC Next Year

Remember that news story not too long ago about a possible Carmageddon 4 coming soon to an e-tailer near you? Well, that story had a baby and that baby brings some important news to gamers who have been waiting a long time to read the following statement: Carmageddon: Reincarnation is in pre-production and will be an indie title scheduled for digital download next year on PC, XBLA and PSN.

Stainless Games announced in their indie-style press release that the title is back in the hands of the original developers and it’s not going to be a corporate struggle of creativity this time around. Neil Barnden, Executive Director and Stainless co-founder commented in the press release, saying…

“Carmageddon: Reincarnation will feature the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success.” ... “All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return. We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt.”

Brother, I can dig it.

It reminds me of when Hollywood botches a big blockbuster sequel and then nearly a decade later they reboot it but do it on a low-budget and make it all gritty and cool. Yeah, that’s what this project sounds like.

Anyways, Stainless Games wants to go into full production and is actively seeking partners. Whether they get those partners in time or not is a whole other matter, but the game is apparently scheduled to release in 2012 for multiple platforms. Although, between now and then things might change so don’t hold your breath.
