Castlevania: Mirror Of Fate Coming To 3DS?

Konami may be planning a new Castlevania game for the Nintendo 3DS. A new report states that the game is called Castlevania: Mirror of Fate and will be revealed at E3 in early June.

Dutch gaming site N1ntendo states that Mirror of Fate will be 2D like the Castlevania titles on the regular DS. It's said to be in development at MercurySteam, the Spanish studio responsible for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Shadow producer David Cox and writer/director Enric Álvarez are part of the development team for Fate. It'd be MercurySteam's first game for the 3DS or DS.

While these details might not be accurate, the title seems very likely. Konami registered the domain names Castlevania-MirrorOfFate.net and Castlevania-MirrorofFate.com. Domain registrations aren't always a definite indication of a gamer's title but they're a fairly reliable sign. Many a game announcement has been spoiled by a domain registration.

It seems plausible that Konami would be making an Castlevania for the 3DS. In fact, it's a long overdue move. The DS Castlevania games were some of the best games on that system. Offering gamers a new 3DS entry in the series seems like a great way to convince them to upgrade their handheld. It's more compelling than just throwing together a remake of Order of Ecclesia or one of the other older 2D games.

If Mirror of Fate is a real game, E3 seems like as good of a place as any to announce it. This year's E3 will run from June 5th to June 7th.
