Crysis developer Crytek has taken a big step toward their goal of becoming a multiplatform studio. They've just revealed their new graphics engine, the CryEngine 3, which can be used for DirectX 9/10, PS3, and Xbox 360 - as well as future platforms.

"CryENGINE 3 will set the benchmark for complete game engine solutions in performance, and services to game engine licensees and their players," said Carl Jones, Crytek director of business development. "We've been preparing a long time for CryENGINE on consoles and we're confident that Crytek will again amaze developers at GDC."

The press release touts the engine's "scalability" so maybe running the next Crysis game won't give your computer a heart attack. GDC 2009 will take place from March 23-27 in San Francisco.
