DICE: Focusing On PC Battlefield 3 Benefited Console Versions

The lead platform for newly-released shooter Battlefield 3 was the PC. Executive producer Patrick Bach believes the decision to focus on the PC actually helped, rather than hurt, the console editions.

"Our biggest benefit for the console has been that we’re leading on PC," Bach told PC Gamer. "It has forced us to push the limited technology of consoles compared to the PC to a new level, because we set the bar with what we wanted to create on PC and said, 'How the heck are we going to do this on consoles?'"

The PC version, Bach said, has a lot of features that are "really cool but not key for the gaming experience." Having a "robust PC build" to consult allowed DICE to figure out what was necessary and what wasn't for the console editions.

"The console versions look great because of the PC," said Bach.

Battlefield 3 launched in North America yesterday. It will hit Australia and Europe on the 27th and 28th, respectively.
