Dead Or Alive 5 Ultimate Details New Modes, Costumes, Pre-Order Items

Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is only a month out from release and, this week, the developers have announced all sorts of new details explaining why this version of the game is the “ultimate.” In short: New modes and costumes.

Nowadays, you could almost wait a year or two before buying a fighting game you're interested in. By then, the fifth iteration of that game will have come out, offering you the latest and greatest content that was slowly trickled out through various minor updates. Fighting fans seem to eat up these rapid-fire releases, though, which is precisely why Team Ninja is set to unleash yet another version of Dead or Alive 5, this time being called the “Ultimate” edition.

Published by Tecmo Koei America, Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate is set to arrive on Sept. 6 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This newest edition will offer new offline gameplay modes for those of you who prefer to fly solo, as well as brand new character customization features, including special “pop idol” costumes for several of the lady characters.

If you're more into kicking ass than looking pretty, then you'll be happy to know that a Team Fight mode is being added to DOA5U, as well as items in Survival mode, enhanced training modes and, for those of you who just really, really like having a catchy phrase attached to your player ID card, nearly 1,000 titles to unlock through the games various modes of play.

Team Ninja has also announced a pre-order bonus for the fighter, giving those who reserve a copy nice and early at GameStop or Amazon an exclusive costume pack for some of the game's female fighters.

Whether you pre-order or not, however, new customization options will be available including hairstyles, outfits and animations. There's even a pop idol set for Ayane and Kasumi, a school girl-inspired outfit for Hitomi, Kokoro, Leifang and Mela, as well as a “bad girl” get-up for Helena, Lisa, Momiji, Rachel, Sarah and Tina. So, yeah, just in case you thought this game was going to be more about the fighting and less about the ridiculously jiggly ladies in ridiculously revealing outfits, you've got another thing coming. As a plus for previous fans of the series, though, any outfits you purchased for the original Dead or Alive 5 can be transferred into this latest version of the game.

As for those modes, Team Fight allows you to (crazy, I know) pick a team of fighters to take down a series of opponent squads. A Combo Challenge mode will let you work on each fighter's unique abilities, and Survival Mode will see the triumphant return of items. These bad boys can be earned by using certain attacks or winning a match, giving you various boosts or perhaps even healing your health.
