Well, we all knew a Dead Space sequel was in the works, but now we know how far along it is. A recent job listing on LinkedIn for developer Visceral Games reveals that Dead Space 2 is in pre-production.

"The game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place," states the listing, spotted by superannuation. "We have complete autonomy and creative control over our own decisions. The Games Label at EA is 100% committed to this IP, and has already worked on IP extensions such as comic, animated features, and action figures."

EA revealed that >Dead Space would get a sequel not longer after the original game hit stores last fall. In December 2008, EA CEO John Riccitiello branded the franchise a "long-term big winner."
