Tor Books and Visceral Games revealed today that Dead Space: Martyr will be arriving in bookstores this July. Martyr is a novel that serves as a prequel to the video game series.

Martyr was penned by B. K. Evenson, the award-winning author of horror novel Last Days. The novel explores the origin of the Black Marker and the Church of Unitology, both significant parts of Dead Space's plot. Here's a brief teaser about the storyline:
When geophysicist Michael Altman learns of a mysterious signal emitting from deep within the Chicxulub crater, he cannot resist the lure of an undiscovered artefact. He soon learns that being in close proximity to the artefact causes strange occurrences - visions of the dead, vivid dreams, and violent murders. Altman’s experience with the alien artefact leads to this crucial first chapter in the Dead Space saga.

The novel will cost $14.99 when it hits stores. Amazon's got it listed as a July 20th release though that might just be an estimate.
