Dead To Rights Retribution Dev Doc: Violent Characters Unhinged When you think of a bad-action movie the first thing that comes to mind is a hard-boiled cop who bends the rules to stop bad guys who have no rules. That’s the motto in Namco Bandai’s gritty new action thriller, Dead to Rights: Retribution. The third game in the franchise is darker and more visceral in its violence thanks to the character designs, and the devs explain exactly how they came up with them.

Dead to Rights: Retribution mixes in the fast-paced brawling from beat-e’m-up games but with the over-the-shoulder shooting found in third-person action titles. Gamers can even take control of Jack’s violent but loyal K-9, Shadow.

The new dev doc basically walks gamers through the design process for the good guys, the bad guys and the way they will interact. Somehow the characters had to be redesigned because when they were too realistic the developers felt that the violence portrayed was “disturbing”. It’s kind of tough to fathom that the game was too violent once you start watching the video below, because it all appears to be so over-the-top.

Anyway, you can check out the new dev doc below or visit the Official Website for more info. This Max Payne-wannabe is due out in the early part of 2010 for the Xbox 360 and PS3.
