If you were hoping to get your social networking on via the Xbox 360, you might want to look into becoming a Xbox Live Gold Member. Microsoft announced earlier today in their press release that the upcoming Facebook and Twitter functionality for Xbox Live would be limited to paying subscribers.

“Xbox LIVE Gold Membership will be required for Twitter and Facebook when they are available, and is required for Netflix. Games, media content and Netflix membership are sold separately; a hard drive is required for storage,” says the press release.

You would think that something stated in the official press release would be, you know, official. Nope, Microsoft is now saying that the previous report was “incorrect” and that their plans have not been finalized. In other words, Xbox Live Silver subscribers could be able to use Twitter and Facebook as well. We'll find out one way or the other when these new features go live later in the year.
