While Warren Spector apparently isn't interested in making games like Deus Ex anymore, the other designer of the Deus Ex games - Harvey Smith - hasn't lost that lovin' feeling. In fact, he's making some other first-person shooter/role-playing game right now.
Smith mentioned the unannounced "immersive first-person RPG" (hat tip to Gamasutra) during his keynote address at the Austin Game Developers Conference's Game Career Summit today. When speaking about his personal design interests, he said that, "My focus is very much around games like Deus Ex." I imagine the mere mention of the game made fanboys in attendance faint like Southern belles.
Smith currently works at Arkane Studios, a studio that most recently made Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, the FPS RPG. Messiah received decent reviews but I imagine the expectations for their next first-person RPG project will be pretty high now that Smith is on board. Especially if bored game journos start hyping up the project as a spiritual successor to Deus Ex. Oh, whoops.
