Deus Ex: Human Revolution developer Eidos Montreal outlined their future plans for the stealth-action series today. Their plan for Deus Ex has a name: Deus Ex: Universe.

Deus Ex: Universe isn't a single game. Instead, it's Eidos' vision for an "an ongoing, expanding and connected game world built across a generation of core games."

"Itís a commitment on our part to deliver meaningful content that expands the franchise on a regular basis and to deliver a deep conspiracy that will span several connected Deus Ex games, creating a more immersive and richer experience than ever before," said Eidos Montreal boss David Anfossi on the company's website.

The plan includes new games for PC and next-gen consoles. New mobile games are also in the works, following Deus Ex: The Fall's precedent. These projects will be accompanied by other media like books and graphic novels.

Anfossi added that a new next-gen and PC Deus Ex is already in production. He confirmed that most of the development team behind Human Revolution has returned for the project. Additionally, he shared the first concept art from the game:

"It represents a 'ghetto-city' voluntarily built in order to separate the classes. The people in this segregated class have reshaped their environment, nostalgic for their ideal of Cyber Renaissance. This dark and dystopian vision sets the tone for things to come in Deus Ex."

It's tough to tell what time period this screenshot is set in. However, I'd assume that the new Deus Ex is a direct follow-up to Human Revolution. I don't think Eidos would've set Human Revolution so far in the past (25 years before the first two DX games) if they didn't plan on exploring that time period further. I'd expect them to show over the course of the next generation how the world of Deus Ex: Human Revolution evolved into the world of Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War.

From the sound of things, it'll be awhile before we see the next steps in Deus Ex: Universe. Gamers do have something to look forward to this fall, though. Square Enix will release Deus Ex: Human Revolution - Director's Cut on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U on October 22nd in North America and October 25th in PAL territories. This updated version of the game features improvements to the visuals, A.I. and boss fights. It also supports a second-screen experience through PS Vita, the Wii U Gamepad and SmartGlass.
