New DreadOut DLC Will Include New Ghosts And New Story

If there’s one thing I talk about enough on CinemaBlend, it’s third-person survival horror titles like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. So of course, a game like DreadOut is going to catch my eye. DreadOut first released in May of 2014 on to Steam. Now, the game is finally getting another part of the story, titled DreadOut: Keepers Of The Dark, and will be released as DLC on Steam.

DreadOut tells the story of high school student Linda who becomes trapped in a creepy, abandoned town. Well, we’ve heard that somewhere before, haven’t we? Linda has one thing to get her through the nightmare and that’s her smartphone. Very might like the camera angles in the beloved horror game, Fatal Frame, you can walk around using the phone’s camera as a viewfinder to see your way around. And yes, just like in Fatal Frame, the ghosts will pop up out of nowhere. Check out the trailer for the DLC below.

DreadOut: Keepers Of The Dark will include a missing piece of story with 13 new types of ghosts. There will also be eight new playable environments, each one more terrifying than the last, and two chapters that had been previously cut from the main game.

Growing up, I was obsessed with games like Fatal Frame and Silent Hill. What made Fatal Frame so remarkably memorable was the genuine fear felt as you peered through the viewfinder of your camera. You could only see straight ahead, and the second you turned around to face a ghost was horrifying. I always wondered why more games didn’t utilize that gameplay mechanic, because I thought it was pretty clever and equally as frightening.

DreadOut: Keepers Of The Dark will be releasing on Steam on March 24, only a few days away. You can visit its Steam store page to stay updated until its release.
