Today Red Thread Games began the Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign for Dreamfall Chapters, the follow-up to PC adventure games The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. The game's Kickstarter page shows off the first screenshots and art from the long-awaited sequel.
"We aim to recapture the heart and soul of The Longest Journey and to improve on the immersion and game mechanics of Dreamfall in order to bring you a fitting, satisfying and emotional conclusion to the Dreamer Cycle," said Red Thread.
In the game, players will travel to a cyberpunk future, the dreamlike Storytime realm, and the magical Arcadia. They'll control three different characters in the game. These characters' plots will weave together into one storyline. Red Thread previously revealed that the core storyline is already mapped out.
Chapters is a 3D point-and-click adventure. Players explore the environments and solve puzzles using items they find. Red Thread is promising "new game mechanics" and " new thrills."
Red Thread is an independent studio founded by series creator Ragnar Tørnquist. Funcom, the studio responsible for the first two games in the series, is licensing the Journey name to Red Thread. Red Thread is producing and funding the game entirely on their own without a publisher.
The Kickstarter campaign's goal is $850,000. They have until March 10th to raise the funds.
