DuckTales, Payday 2, More Arrive On PSN This Week
Things are heating up on the PlayStation Network this week with a large selection of virtual offerings for both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita going live during tomorrow's update, Aug. 13.
From remastered classics to fully fleshed out new shooter, there's a little something for everyone in this week's list of new releases on PSN. We'll kick things off with a blast from the past as Uncle Scrooge McDuck and company go on a grand adventure in DuckTales Remastered.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that quite a few of you did not, in fact, grow up in the late 80's and early 90's. If that's the case, then there's a pretty good chance that you missed out on the classic animated series, DuckTales, featuring a Scottish duck with the ability to swim in a pool full of gold coins, a few clever nephews, a dimwitted pilot with a heart of gold and, eventually, a Neanderthal duck that was this particular animated series' version of jumping the shark.
Even back in the day popular properties were given the video game treatment, and DuckTales was no exception. Many fondly remember this classic as being a wonderful platforming adventure with loads of characters from the show popping up and more treasure to collect than you can shake a tail feather at. Whether or not nostalgia will hold up remains to be seen, but those going in should at least be aware of the fact that this is just an updated version of the original game. Unlike the Bionic Commando remake that improved the mechanics and gameplay along with the visual overhaul, DuckTales plays exactly like the original version and offer next to nothing in the line of new content. Based on my hands-on experience with the game at E3 earlier this year, however, I can confirm that it both looks and sounds better than ever. If you're looking for a stroll down memory lane (or just a heaping helping of classic platforming) instead of a complete overhaul, this might be right for you.
For fans of committing virtual crime, PayDay 2 also hits PlayStation Network this week, meaning you don't have to run to the store to grab a copy of your very own. That's probably a good thing, as the game's subject matter might tempt you to acquire said copy via less-than-legal means. And it's hard to play video games when you're in jail for shoplifting.
The PS Vita also gets a bizarre altered reality puzzle game in the form of Open Me! this week, as well as the portable launch of A-Men and the updated brick breaking game, BreakQuest: Extra Evolution. And did we mention Fruit Ninja? Because that's totally launching on the Vita this week.
Finally, back over to the home console, you can also pick up twin-stick shooter, Thunder Wolves this week, as well as the sci-fi action RPG, Mars: War Logs.
Look for all of that and more once the PSN update goes live tomorrow afternoon. For more details, visit the PlayStation Blog.
