When Nintendo said that Super Mario Galaxy would be the first proper sequel to hit the series since Super Mario 64, they weren’t kidding. Where as Super Mario Sunshine was fun, it was very familiar. Galaxy is a complete, radical departure from the series and so far it all looks incredible. The feel of the series is still absolutely intact, but everything else has been ejected.

Obviously the setting creates whole different options for level design, first and foremost. But also, the functions appear to finally take complete advantage of the Wiimote. Waggle and motion control is all taken advantage of. Also if you look closely you’ll see Mario collection mysterious stars. Later on in the level these stars are shots at things on screen using the light gun function of the Wiimote to stun enemies and presumably produce other effects as well.

The coolest part of the trailer is the new suits. It shows Mario hopping into a Bee costume to warm our heats and pollinate our flowers. It also shows him donning an outfit like a Boo and hovering about all spooky-like.
