There’s been a fanboy debate brewing in the wings. Jockstraps have tightened. Knickers have knotted. Panties have twisted. Fanboys are raging. What’s all the fuss about? Well, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has officially answered the call of duty (pun intended) when Battlefield 3 threw down the gauntlet, and then Battlefield 3 responded with a gut-wrenching pwnage punch to the virtual gut of MW3.
Today, several new videos were released for both Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Battlefield 3, including eight whole minutes of campaign gameplay for Modern Warfare 3, but those eight minutes didn't save Activision's number one shooter from looking a bit childish in comparison to DICE's Frostbite 2.0 beast. EA and DICE have been gung-ho to veer attention away from Modern Warfare 3 at every single turn, one-upping Activision with one promotional trailer after another that makes people say “Modern War-what?...”. That’s exactly how it is with the newest trailer for Battlefield 3 which is also an eight minute trailer that comes out of the single-player campaign that sees a battalion of tanks launching an assault on a secret base out in the desert. Take note, all of the footage is realtime. All of the following footage is in –game. All of the footage from Battlefield 3 makes Modern Warfare 3 look like a poverty-stricken shooter you would find in a back alley. For real. Just compare the realtime in-game play of Battlefield 3 to all the pre-scripted events of Modern Warfare 3 and you can easily see which franchise is worth keeping around to enhance and evolve the FPS genre. And remember, Infinity Ward already admitted that Battlefield 3 is the technically superior game, earlier this year. But hey, you’ve seen the Modern Warfare 3 trailer it’s now time to check out the Battlefield 3 trailer and prepare to countdown the days until October 25th rolls around. Need to pre-order?
